Your Daily Male 2019 calendar : selection of male sculptures

The Groningen-based Galerie Mooiman, specialized in male art, and already mentioned in this blog (see here), just released his Daily Male 2019 calendar filled with artworks from 52 artists, and this time with 7 sculptors among them. All these artists concentrate their work on the male (nude) beauty and body. I am honored to be part of this group.

This Dutch art gallery is among the very few in Europe specializing in gay artists, editing books about some of these artists, organizing unique exhibitions (like the current one about the Diego Tolomelli stained-glass & playing cards project), and promoting gay male art in general.

Here are some works of 6 of these sculptors : Ivo Blanck, Dennis Coenraad, Antoine Timmermans, OK van Botenburg, Marcel Julius Joosen and Keith King.

St Sebastien, gay icon (4) in contemporary sculptures

To close this chapter on the art représentations of St Sébastien as a gay icon, here are a few more contemporary sculptures, ie after the Renaissance period.

Alexandre Louis Charpentier (French) late 19th century, Bronze. Metropolitan Museum NYC, USA.

Damien Hirst, British artist, created his work entitled 'St Sébastien - Exquisite pain' in 2007. Here is the Damien Hirst website.

Marcel Julius Joosen, Dutch artist already mentioned on this blog, and born in 1943, he did this first plaster sculpture in 1992.

And the following one.

The next two sculptures are from Marc Alberghina, French contemporary artist, who spends lots of time fighting against mass art production with cheap material or clay and poorly done.

Male figurative art gallery : Mooiman gallery in Holland

The Mooiman gallery (Mooi in Dutch language means cute!)  in Holland is specialized in male art / gay art so you will be sure to see lots of male figurative art in all types of media in that commercial gallery, one of the very few in Europe. It is located in Groningen, 2 hours train North of Amsterdam.

Mooiman promotes close to 60 artists from many countries, and organizes regular exhibitions. They maintain an active presence at Art fairs.  Click here for their website.

You will find below a few names of artists who created gay or male sculptures and are represented by Mooiman gallery.  I will come back in future posts to show more works of some of these sculptors.

Marcel Julius Joosen : Dutch, born in 1943, he considered being a priest but decided to pursue his passion for sculpture. He sculpts nude men, and a lot of African man, to celebrate their beauty.

Ivo Blanck, German sculptor, made this 'Lust und Last"

Dennis Coenraad, Dutch sculptor, created this 'Approaching silence'.

Hay Wijnoven, Dutch artist, graphic designer, did many sculptures as well, such as this 'Huber' in bronze, sitting on a Belgian limestone.
